GLEN DE JAGER
CFO & Non-Executive Director
A precision-driven accountant and entrepreneur, Glen has led his Cape Town-based boutique accounting & tax practice for five years, serving SMEs, high-net-worth individuals and mission-driven organisations with clean audits, smart tax strategies and sustainable financial models.
He brings TAAL rigorous oversight, strategic budgeting and proven expertise in scaling non-profits without compromising accountability, ensuring every donor rand delivers maximum literacy impact.
COLIN BANFIELD,
Non-Executive Director
An ordained minister for 20 years and active missionary for nearly 40, Colin has dedicated his life to spiritual formation, youth empowerment and holistic community development across Cape Town, the UK, Middle East and Southeast Asia — with a special focus on marginalised communities.
Colin brings deep pastoral compassion, missionary zeal for contextual outreach and firsthand insight into the barriers facing children from low-income families. His voice ensures TAAL’s programmes remain rooted in their spiritual foundation.
He holds a Master of Missiology (University of the Free State) and continues in theological training, pastoral care and mission work.
SELINA KLEINSMITH
Non-Executive Director
At Breadline Africa, Selina leads donor acquisition and retention across Direct Mail and Face-to-Face fundraising, overseeing campaigns, agency partnerships, and supporter engagement. She has played a key role in securing long-term donors, improving retention rates, and strengthening stewardship systems, introducing data-driven approaches to enhance communication and responsiveness. Selina is known for her warm, donor-focused approach, strong ethical standards, and commitment to transparency and accountability.
Her work is motivated by a belief in the transformative power of early childhood development, and she is dedicated to connecting donors with communities where their support creates meaningful, lasting impact.
SADIE HENDRICKS
Non-Executive Director
A human resource professional whose career has been defined by a conviction that good people management is not an administrative function — it is a human one. With a background spanning 30 plus years in HR, she has worked across corporate sector i.e. Insurance, Banking and Pharmaceutical before bringing her expertise to the non-profit sector in her current role as HR Manager.
For TAAL, this experience is directly relevant. A programme that works with trauma-affected youth in under-resourced communities, employs community facilitators who are themselves from those communities, and asks its staff to hold significant emotional weight session after session — Sadie’s years of being in the Human Resources field ensures that TAAL’s team is recruited with integrity, supported with care, and managed in a way that reflects the dignity the programme teaches.
RICHARD JOSHUA
Founder & Creative Director, TAAL
Richard Joshua is the Founder and Creative Director of TAAL, a Cape Town initiative that turns violent language into life-giving expression through art and mother-tongue literacy.
Raised in Bridgetown, Athlone, he experienced an environment where harsh language was common from an early age. After fifteen years working with the San Carlos Apache community in Arizona as both a missionary and an artist, he returned to South Africa convinced that when people lose their land and suffer cultural shame, language can become a tool for both self-protection and aggression.
Back on the Cape Flats, his work as an art and design trainer in Khayelitsha demonstrated how creative expression can unlock buried trauma and restore emotional connection. This experience led to the founding of TAAL, which is committed to first addressing harm through the arts and then supporting the renewal of language and identity.
Richard is determined to show that the same tongue that once taught hate can, in the very same accent, be taught to speak with dignity.
